The glorious 100 years of Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology

1919 - 2019

"Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology is a pioneer Institute in the field of Leather Technology. It is going to celebrate Centenary year between March 2018 and March 2019. The College has been changed from mono discipline to multi discipline from the year 2000 introducing Information Technology and Computer Science and Technology. The name of the College has been changed four times like – initially Calcutta Research Tannery, then Bengal Tanning Institute, after that College of Leather Technology and presently Govt. College of Engg. & Leather Technology (GCELT). It has M. Tech. Course in Leather Technology. A two years advanced certificate course in Boot, Shoe and Leather Goods Making is also running in the College. The coordination between three degree courses viz. Leather Technology, Information Technology and Computer Science & Technology are very good. TPO is very much active in assisting placement of the students. IT, CSE & LT faculties are trying their best to organize training programme in the College by outside agencies which helps the students in developing their practical knowledge and personality. Another campus of the College is almost ready at Bantala Leather Complex which will be inaugurated by renowned personality during the centenary year. Faculties and staff are putting their best efforts in their respective assignment under the able leadership of the Principal/Officer-in Charge. I Wish the College to run in future with highly sophisticated equipments, advanced technology, updated and need based syllabus, introducing new stream & with all the modern facilities needed for a world class Institute. My heartfelt gratitude to Prof. B.M. Das who had taken initiative for starting an Institute of Leather Technology in the year 1919. I also convey my gratitude to all the Superintendent/ Principals/ Directors/Officer-in-Charges who have headed the Institute successfully during this 100 years."
